Part Twenty-Five

Misty: *In La'Esk* *whomp* Oh, ow. I forgot to brace myself. ugh... Is everyone here?

Ace: *Looks around to see a wasteland of gray, futile sand, a darkened gray sky, and dead trees* La'Esk... Has changed...

Naomi: I'll say! Geez, if the eastern plains look THIS bad, I'd hate to see what the Field of Esperia looks like... Scary stuff...

Misty: *looks around* huh. What did it used to look like?

Ace: *Deep thought* You really ought to know, Iris...-- Uh, Misty...

Naomi: It was all green and beautiful. It was prettier than Falmira, which is where we came from.

Misty: ... Iris? *turns* I don't see anyone. Maybe that little transporter didn't do any good to your head. Do... do you think that maybe the DC destroyed this place and that's why there was a big X?

Alzymus: I certainly hope not, but that's a big possibility. Looks like chemical warfare to me.

Misty: What do you mean?

Alzymus: It's a technology Tellius has been working on over the last few months, and I fear they've conducted a test with them right here.

Misty: Oh. I see. But, where are the docks? That's where the others are going to be.

Ace: Well I certainly hope they didn't destroy the rest... It was so beautiful.

Naomi: If this is the work of the CS, that's all the more reason to take them down!

Ace: Yes... Um, sorry about that, Misty, you just... Remind me of someone.

Misty: Oh, I do? Huh, that's strange. Who? If you don't mind my asking.

Ace: Well, apparently, a girl named Iris... *chuckles*

Misty: *rolls eyes* I knew that but... whatever. *hears something* What is that? It's coming from my bag. *looks inside* It's my phone! *answers phone* Hello?

Sarah: Misty! *sigh of relief* I'm so glad you're alright.

Misty: ... What do you mean? Is their something I should know about?

Sarah: She's there!

Misty: Who?

Sarah: Eve!

Misty: *stares straight ahead in disbelief* WHAT?!

Sarah: Misty, be careful ok? I want you to get home safely.

Misty: ... Ok, I'll. I'll try. I haven't seen her in... a long time.

Sarah: I know. Want me to bring you back? They would understand.

Misty: *thinks*... No. But if I need you, I'll call.

Sarah: Be careful. Bye.

Misty: Bye Sarah. *Sigh* *stares into space and thinks* How? How did you find me! Can't you just leave me alone! *sigh* Where were we? Oh right. Which direction do we need to be going?

Ace: Straight... *points* That way. To the southwest.

Misty: Ok. Just... keep an eye out.

Alzymus: Two, as often as I can spare them.

Ace: Misty... I want to ask you something. Why is it that you think you have to continue to help us?

Naomi: ...

Misty: *Keeps walking without looking back* ... Why do you care? I could ask you the same question. Why is it you think you have to continue helping us?

Naomi: Don't turn this around on him, he asked you a question first.

Ace: ... I am with A--... Brady. And I can't forsake him as long as I live.

Misty: ... Ok then, Why do you ask? Does it bother you that I'm here? *thinks* Why is he even asking these questions? I mean, it's not like I'm in the way. I'm trying to help. But... what if I am in the way? What if I really am not being of much help? I mean, I haven't exactly been there with Hanna and DJ. I've gotten lost with these... jokers. And it seems as if we have all lost sight of what we are really after. Lui. After Brady showed up... wait, after Brady showed up, we didn't seem to be looking for Lui anymore. We were going after something else. At least it seems to me. What if Brady is trying to keep us away from Lui?! Hmm... I think I'm going a bit overboard with this. But... I don't know. If I know something and I don't say anything it could jeopardize the mission. But... should I say something...

Ace: Why would you think that? I'm merely curious... You're... You're making this out to be something bigger than it is. Now let's just calm down.

Naomi: Don't be stupid, Ace. We both know what we want might not be what they want.

Misty: Hmm... Maybe so. I just have a lot on my mind right now. It just seems to me we have to get to get back to the others and do what we really came here for, to find Lui.

Ace: Is that what you really came here for?

Misty: Uhh... yeah? What do you think I came here for?

Alzymus: *points to self* Am I the only one who knows what he's here for?

Misty: Wait, who? Lui? Yeah, I guess... I don't know why he was sent here.

Ace: *nonchalantly* Well, I guess if that's your motive, then there's no more questions asked...

Misty: ... That was easy.

Alzymus: Well then.

Naomi: Lets hurry up and go... This place smells weird. Not to mention it's got this creepy aura feel to it.

Alzymus: Aye, that it does. Lead on.

Misty: *follows*

*scene switch*

Hanna: Exactly how does the CS fit into all this? What are they capable of? *quizzically turns to DJ* And what were you thinking of that would involve the CS?

DJ: Well ok, but if Iul does something up there, I'm blaming it on you. *turns to Hanna* I have no idea what you and Brady are talking about.

Hanna: *stares at DJ* I never thought of the CS till Brady said something... Very well. I trust you. Back to the question... *turns to Brady* Are you going to tell us why they're such a threat?

Brady: Well, it's because if they get a hold of either of you, they will be half way to... *Thinks before going on*
They will be halfway to using Thorae as a weapon against Earth.

Hanna: ...okay then...that makes loads of sense... Now I have to worry about other people using me as a WMD... Yep, that's just great. As if it weren't bad enough that I'm already a threat to my friends, now I'm an even greater threat to Earth. It can't possibly get any better than this...

DJ: How could I possibly be used as a weapon? I'm nothing special...or at least I thought so.

Brady: It may not make any sense right now, but you will understand more once we confront the CS. Until then, your prime concern should be keeping your evil side in check. Trust me, that's all your really need to worry about.

Hanna: *glares at Brady* Don't dare tell me what my priorities are. I know well enough how powerful she has become. I know I need to keep her under control and I know she is steadily finding it easier to get out... But keeping her in check is NOT my primary concern.

EDJ: *walks in* Speaking of evil sides...

DJ: *turns* Oh good, you're here.

Brady: I say to keep her in check because we may still need her.

Hanna: Need her?! No one can possibly use her for anything other than evil. She is a catastrophic force whose sole end is destruction itself. People like her... no... people like me should never even exist in the first place. *turns to DJ and EDJ* And I'm sorry about what she said earlier... the death threats.

EDJ: Apology accepted.

Hanna: *somewhat surprised* Really?

EDJ: One's actions while under the evil influence should not be counted against their better nature.

Hanna: That is... *looks down* ...very kind of you. *sigh* Thanks. I don't deserve to be forgiven so easily...

EDJ: How could I do anything less than what was done for me by the greatest of sacrifices?

Hanna: *looks at EDJ with a confused expression* What?

EDJ: There was a great man who once lived a perfect life. He was the greatest friend any person could ever have. And he died to forgive me. You know some of the horrible things I've done, and this man would die for me? How could I do anything less?

Hanna: *narrows eyes as she thinks this over* A perfect life? What could EDJ possibly... the only one who... unless he's talking about... *eyes widen* You couldn't possibly mean... you... you can't mean... *whispers in a voice filled with fear* Him.

EDJ: Ah, so you know of Whom I speak. His death was not in vain, as death could not hold Him. He died not only for me, but for every other person that ever lives, including you, Hanna.

Hanna: .....I know..... *starts to cry* ....but...I can't...I can't be forgiven...not after purposefully ignoring Him for so long....

EDJ: He tells us that if we confess our sins to Him, He'll forgive our sins and cleanse us from them. There is no sin so great as to separate us from His love.

Hanna: Yes... but... I'm afraid. Afraid of letting go. Afraid of failing. Afraid of... everything...

EDJ: Tell it to Him, and let Him take your fears.

Hanna: ....I'm not sure He will listen... I'm far too... evil. I was created... the day Savannah decided to follow Him. I was created out of everything she left behind. The evil I have.... isn't just mine. It is all the evil Anna and Kandi would have. This evil is the combination of all three of us. ....I was fit for destruction from the beginning.

Brady: *thinks* Him?... Who in blazes are they talking about?... Oh... They mean that ancient religious stuff. So, even all the people they have slain do not count as unforgivable? Strange...

Hanna: *sigh* Even...even if I do... decide to live for Him... I would never be able to stay faithful.
I was created from evil. I can only remain evil. I have no choice...

*flashback*

Anna: Sometimes hope seems to disappear completely. It's still there, just hidden in the shadows. But every once in a while, the light shines through, dispelling all doubt and fear, bringing hope to those in darkness.

Hanna: ...what are you getting at?

Anna: No matter what happens...no matter what anyone else may tell you, I want you to know that you always a choice.

*end of flashback*

Hanna: *Whispers to herself* Can He really help me? Can He really... save... me? Or maybe the real question is... will I let Him?

EDJ: He is mighty to save anyone who will have Him.

Hanna: But I...I don't think I can. I will only fail Him. I will never become the person I should be.

EDJ: He says that through our weaknesses and failures, He makes us strong.

Hanna: Why do you continue to believe there is hope for me? I'm nothing but a lost cause. Why does anyone continue to believe in me? I don't understand. I should have been left to die a long time ago.

Brady: If you had died, no efforts to save Earth would have been possible. Not only that, but it seems you have some pretty close friends who would have been devastated to see you go. No... If you had died, there wouldn't have been much hope.
Let me put it in terms of religion. You are His tool for saving all of mankind from the brink of obliteration... DJ as well. You and he make a great team... It sometimes makes me wish I could feel like that.

Hanna: Pfft, some team. *looks at DJ* One minute my recklessness nearly gets you killed, the next minute I have to stop my own evil from hurting you. *sighs* I never asked for this. I'm no hero. *winces and holds head in hands* I don't want this!

EDJ: And running away from your problems isn't going to help you any. You have to give it to Him, or else you'll be stuck trying to hide from yourself. And what kind of life is that? Believe me, I should know.

Hanna: I'm not running away... I just... *shuts eyes and grimaces in pain* I can't keep doing this... I can't keep hiding... he's right.

EDJ: You need to deal with this sometime or another. You want us to leave so you can think?

Brady: *lowers eyes into a glare* Hmph. Enough pep-talk from me...
Get it together Hanna. I don't need you spilling yourself all over the battlefield. If you couldn't handle this, you'd be dead already. *Tosses Hanna a card*
Don't forget about your other option.

Hanna: *stares at the card* ...maybe...maybe I should just let him go...maybe...I should... Ack! *drops to knees and holds head* Why?! Why now?! *sits like that for a few seconds then calmly stands up and throws the card back to Brady*
Thanks, but no thanks. I need to finish what I started. That won't happen unless we get to Lui. *glares at EDJ with red eyes* Hehe, you're good. You're really good. You had her going with that last bit. I mean, feigned empathy? That's low even for you. For a minute there, I was actually afraid she was going to make a choice.

*girl opens door and walks in* *looks shocked* ... Is this room 315? Because that's what it said on the sign and... y'all are in here. And they told me this is my room. And hey! Neat eyes!

Hanna: Thanks. *smiles sweetly* Well, as you can see, I'm using this room. Maybe yours is down the hall.

Girl: You’re welcome. Ok, I'll check. *checks door number* Oh, I am sorry. This is 314, I'm next door. Maybe I'll see you around! I'm going to La'Esk, so I'll be on a while. *as she walks out she sticks a bug on the wall without them noticing* Maybe now, I can find exactly where you are...

EDJ: Riight. *looks around* Hey, where'd DJ go? I thought he was here with us!

Hanna: *friendly smile vanishes* Don't know, don't care. Maybe he decided to get a life and stop following me around. What's with you guys anyway? What, you think we're the fantastic four or something?! This is my room, so get out. Shoo. Get lost.

Girl: *this occurs as they are talking* *she starts to walk to her room* Ok, now I just need to get to my room... *opens her room door and locks it once inside* ooookkkk... *opens laptop* Now, where are we at.

Laptop: "EDJ: Riight. Hey, where'd DJ go? I thought he was here with us!"

Girl: Good, it works. But... where is he? That could be a problem.

EDJ: *sighs* Alright. *walks out, and thinks* I suppose it's in His hands now. I should go check on DJ...I bet he left for our room.

Girl: hmmm... I wonder where they are headed...

EDJ: *walks over to room and looks inside* DJ? Hmm...not here. And it's getting pretty late too...

Girl: Hmmm... all's quiet on the Western front. I guess I'll go on the deck, but so I don't miss anything important... *picks up thing that looks like bluetooth and sticks in ear* There, now I can still hear them.

*walks out of the room onto the deck* Misty, where are you? You know I didn't do it. Can't you forgive me? Pfft... like that's going to happen... No one could ever forgive me. *sigh* *leans up against the rail/wall of the ship*

*scene switch*

EDJ: *sighs* I'll just wait here for him, I guess. He'll be back in sooner or later.
*prays* Lord, I pray that you will guide Hanna's heart. Lead her to you.
*sits down on bed and instantly falls asleep*

Brady: *warps out of room* I much prefer the future... People in these days are so depressing.
*Looks to the horizon* *thinks* Well, the sun's beginning to set. Too bad... The sun is more invigorating for fighting...
Honestly, Hanna... If you don't stop this breakdown I'm going to leave you. And if that happens... So will your friends. They don't realize how fragile an alliance is. What idiots... What simplistic, innocent little....
And what's with all the pop-culture references?!

*scene switch*

Hanna: Ah, that's better. They've all gone. *sits in chair and props feet on nearby table* Seriously, I can't understand why they won't just leave me alone. Were it not for the fact that they can get me to my destination, they would all be dead by now. *sits thinking for a few moments in silence* One of these days, I'm going to be free of this. I'm not letting some pitiful version of myself stay in control. It's impossible to believe she's actually been able to keep me at bay for this long.

Girl: Dead? I better hurry and figure out what's going on. I can't risk her dying.

Brady: *walks around the ship, not really having anything in mind, and walks down into the passenger deck* *Bumps into a young woman and she drops her bag*
Oh-- Uh, excuse me... *Helps her to her feet as he kicks her bag into the air and catches it.*
*Hands her the bag*

Brady: My apologies.

Woman: Oh... Um, it's okay... I... I.....

Brady: *confused look* Uhh....

Woman: Th-thanks.... *runs down the hallway*

Brady: *watches her run off* I wonder what that was all about... And what's she doing going to La'Esk, anyway?

Girl: Well... that was awkward. Hmm... I guess I'll go to my room then. *walks in room and closes door*

Hanna: *gets up from chair and walks around the room a bit* *stands in front of mirror and just stares at her reflection* ...I will crush you...
Aaaugh!! *suddenly falls to the ground clutching head in pain* You can’t control me forever, so stop trying! This frequent switching is actually starting to hurt!! Ack! You enjoy tearing yourself apart?!?! If you don’t stop...Augh!! *passes out*

*scene switch*

Girl: *in room there's a chair, a desk, and a bed with one side up against a wall* *sigh* Why do things need to be so difficult. And why do I feel so different here? So... I don't know. Not bad I suppose. It's a very strange feeling. *looks at hands and pats self* I feel the same, but at the same time... I don't. *sits on bed and leans against wall* Hmm I guess I'll go to the kitchen. I haven't eaten in forever. *goes to kitchen to make sandwich*
*heads back to room* *in the hall she thinks* What am I going to do about him though... I didn't even think about it. He won't take leaving lightly. Not. At. All. *walks in room to see note on desk* Huh? What's this? *sets sandwich down and pick up note* ... It's from him. *reads* Part one of the plan is complete, meet me in room 418 in 15 minutes. Cryptic *looks up into mirror* Is this who I really am? I this who I want to be? A person who hurts my other's friends? *she sits in the chair and finishes her sandwich which takes about 6 minutes* I guess I should go see him. Wait, part one. *thinks* what was part one... *gets worried expression on face* Oh yeah... DJ... *sighs and walks to room 418* Here goes nothing. *knocks on door*

*scene switch*

DJ: *wakes up in a dark, quiet room* Ugh...what's going on here? Iul? *tries to stand up but realizes he is chained to the wall* What is this?

Unknown: *enters the room, his face hidden by the shadows* Ah, good to see you up again.

DJ: If only the feeling was mutual. Where am I?

Unknown: Ye be aboard the Orca, my friend. We couldn't have you on that ship when the attack takes place, now could we?

DJ: Attack?!

Unknown: You heard me right. Pirates are waiting in ambush not more than an hour from now at the cruiser's current rate. Your mission to rescue the chosen one ends here, I'm afraid.

DJ: The chosen one? My friends.....one hour?

Unknown: Correct. *steps forward out of the shadows* We cannot allow this to go any further than it has. You and your friends have caused quite a stir in Thorae, a stir that should never have happened. You should have been killed at the Rift.

DJ: Cryptic! Just you watch, they'll survive whatever you and the CS throw at them. I believe in them.

Cryptic: We shall see about that, my friend. We shall see. If you'll excuse me, I have pressing matters to attend to now. *exits the room and leaves DJ alone again*

*scene switch*

Hanna: *wakes to find herself in a dark room* Where am I? *hears a child crying so she stands up and looks around* Hello...?

*sees a young girl sobbing next to two bodies lying on the ground not far away*

Girl: *looks up at her with absolute hate* You! You did this!

Hanna: *stares wide-eyed at the bodies* What? I... What are you talking about?

Girl: Murderer! I saw you kill them! I saw you! Why did you come back? Do you want to kill me too?!

Hanna: *takes a few steps back* ...No...I...

Girl: *hateful tone softens to a whisper* Why? Why did you kill my parents?

Hanna: ...I...

*spins around to run, but jumps back when she sees her evil self in front of her*

Evil Hanna: *smirks* You will not escape me. *draws sword*

Hanna: What do you want from me?!

Evil Hanna: I need control. The only way to destroy you is by slaying everyone you love. *plunges the sword through Hanna*

Hanna: Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhh! *jolts awake on the floor in her room, shaking and gasping violently* Wha-where? *looks around*
*breathing slows and eventually returns to normal*
That dream again... but the end... was different... So that’s what she wants... *heavy sigh* Why is this getting so much harder...?
*uneasily stands, but almost falls and holds onto the edge of the table for support*
Ugh... I can feel another headache coming... I need some fresh air.*instead of walking, uses wings to fly out of the room and up to the deck*

*scene switch*

Brady: I wonder when everybody is going to stop calling me by this stupid fake name. *Sighs* I hope nobody else dies once we reach La'Esk. It's more dangerous there than anything we've faced yet.
*Looks to the moonlit ocean as they sail* Looks like it's time we get a little extra help.

Alright Vix. You can show me your stuff now.

Woman: *Appears about ten feet away from Brady*
Hmm... What stuff do you want me to show you? *Walks closer to Brady*

Brady: Knock it off, alright? I really wish Doc had prepared someone else for this mission instead of you.

Vix: Aw, someone’s in a grumpy mood today. *softly clings to Brady's arm* Mind telling me what's the matter?

Brady: Well what you're doing right now isn't making me too ecstatic. *Pulls arm away from Vix*
I'm ok, as long as we can just get this mission over with soon. We haven't come all this way to let Hanna die.

Vix: That spoiled little brat, huh? How many times have you saved her life? When was the last time she really appreciated you? I don't even think she considers you in her little "circle of friends".

Brady: Don't say stuff like that. She knows what she's doing. And I trust DJ to take care of her, which is why I think you and I should go ahead of them and make sure that there aren't any Ala'ci outposts in their path. If there are, we just take 'em out.

Vix: *obviously trying to put the moves on again* Just the two of us, huh? I like the sound of that. *gives a sly smile*

Brady: Cut it out... this is business. I don't want a repeat of... You know.

*scene switch*

Hanna: *slowly flies to the front of the ship deep in thought* What am I afraid of? Change? I don’t know...
*sits on the bowsprit of the ship, looking up at the sky* Ugh, what’s wrong with me?! I’m on a downward spiral from which there is no return and here I am still thinking there is hope! *Sigh* I’m getting worse with every passing moment. Ever since I got to Thorae, she’s been finding it easier and easier to- *gasps as a look of realization sweeps her face* *whispers* the portal...? I’m reverting back to my original self. I can’t stop this. There’s no way I can hold her back for much longer.
*sadly looks up at a star* How long can you wait for me? ...Lui, no matter what it takes, I will free you...

*scene switch*

Cryptic: *opens the door* You're early. Well then, are you ready to wreak havoc, my darling?

Eve: *walks in room* Cryptic, you sure you want to go through with this?

Cryptic: Ready as ever, of course. You're not wavering, are you? It's the only way, you know.

Eve: Well... No but... don't you think kidnapping DJ was a bit extreme?

Cryptic: Don't forget, we need at least one of the two of them, or the deal with the CS is off. This way we get him AND take out the others as well.

Eve: I'm still not sure what the deal was again. Take out the others?! What about MY other? Are we taking her out? Can you explain it one more time?

Cryptic: Of course, my darling. This HAS come awful sudden for you, hasn't it? Once we deliver either Hanna or DJ to the CS command, they let me go free and give us the reward- a transporter to the world of our choice. As for your other, that's up to you. I won't interfere with her if you wish me to not. She's not on the boat right now anyway, correct?

Eve: *nods* I see... what exactly are we going to do? I would rather you leave her alone. *thinks* If I can at least keep one safe, maybe she can save the others... And no, she's not on the boat.

Cryptic: I can't imagine how strange it must be to be attached to an other like you and the others are.

Eve: You get used to it after 2 years I suppose. *sigh*

Cryptic: Anyway, right now we're just going to signal the pirates to attack this cruiser, and then take out the little heroes before they can prevent anything. After that, we return to the Orca and bring DJ to the Clocktower. Then we're free to go wherever your beautiful heart desires.

Eve: So we just let the others die?

Cryptic: You have a problem with that? It rids the world of a few distractions, and we live happily ever after. A perfect storybook ending, wouldn't you say? Now, we should get going before anything comes up.

Eve: *take a step back* *thinks* *decides to play along* No, I suppose not. *walks over to table with bowl of fruit on it* So... *picks up banana* *turns to Cryptic* What do we do first?

Cryptic: The captain's deck. There's a beacon up there we can use to signal the pirates. *thinks* She's worrying me. I thought we'd gone over this already...she isn't trying to cross me, is she? If she does, I'll crush her like the bug she is.

Eve: Got it.

Cryptic: *opens the door and takes Eve's hand* Come, my darling. On to destiny! *leads her quietly up to the deck and points out Hanna* There's the other one they want.

Eve: *looks* I see. *turns to Cryptic* Why don't we take them both? Wouldn't that be better?

Cryptic: It would, but our first priority is signaling the pirates. Then we figure out what to do with her and the others. *continues walking up to where the captain's deck is*

Eve: hhhmmm... *looks at Hanna* *turns back to Cryptic* Ok.

Cryptic: *thinks for a moment* On second thought, maybe you can go keep an eye on her while I take care of the captain. Just stay out of her sight...shouldn't be too hard with her head in the clouds like that. I'll be back in a few minutes. *leaves Eve on the deck*

Eve: Ok. *thinks* Well, she's doesn't know I'm with him, so no reason for me to stay hidden. *facepalm* Why am I doing this?! *walks over to railing, leans on it* *realizes she's still holding the banana, so she eats it while she waits*

Cryptic: *looks down at Eve as he walks up the stairs* Eh, close enough. *looks back up and sees the door to the glass-enclosed cabin* Well then, this should be slightly entertaining. *quietly slips the key he stole into the door and opens it, then sneaks over and slits the captain's throat* Too easy. *reaches over and activates the signal lights* Now, they should be here within a few minutes. Time to take care of the brat.

Eve: *finishes banana. Walks over to trash to throw it away* *walks back over to railing* *walks over to Hanna* Hi, I just wanted to apologize again, I'm really sorry about what happened. *thinks* and what's going to happen.

Hanna: Hhhmm? *looks at Eve* Have I seen her somewhere before? Oh wait... wasn't she the one that...? .... Oh. You. Whatever. *turns to stare at the dark waves* Ugh, these memory lapses are mixing everything up. *closes eyes and sighs* Listen, whoever you are and whatever you're apologizing for, forget it. I really just want to be alone right now. Ugh, who am I kidding? I hate being alone... *looks at Eve with a forced smile while trying to hold back tears* Whatever you did, it couldn't have been that bad.

Eve: *looks at Hanna unsure of what to say* *thinks* What do I do?! I've never been in this kinda situation before... Misty would try to comfort her... I guess I'll try. Umm yeah, well. I just walked into your room earlier, thinking it was mine. *shrugs* I guess it wasn't but... *notices Hanna's wings* You need to get out of here. Get your other friend, E-what's-his-face, and fly away. It's not safe here, trust me. Please... things are about to get really bad and... *notices light on top of deck start flashing* And (OO) yeah. just get out of here now! *runs to captain's deck*

Hanna: *watches Eve with confusion and whispers* ...not safe... Is that supposed to be news to me? *narrows eyes* ...and EDJ? ....what in the world is she talking about? Is there anyone in this world that doesn't speak in riddles?! I feel like Alice in Wonderland...maybe it's just me. *shrugs* *turns back to stare at the water, but sees something in the distance* ...?

Cryptic: *casually steps out of the captain's deck and starts walking down to where Hanna is, but runs into Eve as she flies around a corner* Ow! What are you doing up here?! I thought you were watching Hanna...she didn't notice you, did she? Actually, don't answer that. It doesn't matter by now; the pirates will be here before SHE can do anything.

Eve: Oh, sorry. Well, I saw the light flashing, so... I thought I should come on up here. And well, to answer the second question, yes, she did notice me, but it's ok! She's just standing there. And... I thought we were taking her with us?

Cryptic: We will. But I think we ought to wait until the attack before we try anything...no need to alert the other passengers too soon. I might go down and have a chat with EDJ. *snickers* Might be his last...

Eve: During the attack? But what if she gets killed? I think we should take her to the Orca now. While you do that, what do you want me to do?

Cryptic: *shrugs* If she gets killed, one less threat for the CS to deal with later. We don't need her alerting any guards before the pirates attack...that might jeopardize the entire mission. Don't worry, it'll work out. While I'm....reminiscing with EDJ, you can make sure that neither Hanna there nor Brady *points to where he is* do anything....stupid. Is that alright?

Eve: I see.... Yeah, it's fine. Why wouldn't it be?

Cryptic: I don't know...I just want to have your best interests at heart, my darling. Yeah right... I'll be back for you soon. *starts walking down to the cabins* The sooner I get rid of these nuisances...it all started with EDJ five years ago when he first came to Thorae. Ironic that it ends with him now as well.

Eve: *shrugs* ok *walks over to bench and sits, watching Hanna and Brady*

Hanna: *tilts head while looking at dark shape in the distance* What is that? Another cruiser? *stands and lightly hops back onto deck* *looks around for someone to ask* Hmm... No one in sight, not too surprising at this hour. *turns back to the water and narrows eyes* Whatever it is... it's getting closer.

*scene switch*

DJ: *in solitude* I have to do something to warn the others...but how can I when I'm stuck here? *thinks for a while* This is hopeless...the pirates'll be on that cruiser any minute now, I bet. WAIT! I know what I can do! *tries to communicate with EDJ via mindspeaking* Iul, can you hear me? Iul?

EDJ: *is woken up by the mindspeaking and replies rather sleepily* DJ? Where are you?

DJ: I'm on a CS boat; they knocked me out and took me over here. Cryptic's behind it!

EDJ: I knew it! I should have taken him out when I had the chance!

DJ: And that's not all! He's leading a pirate attack on the cruiser! You and the others are in danger! You need to get them out of there!

EDJ: What?! I'll do the best I can, but I don't know if I have enough time to get everyone or not.

DJ: It's in your hands! I have faith in you. Rescue the others and get to the other side! Don't worry about me, I'll be fine.

EDJ: Ok. *hurries and gathers his and DJ's things, then rushes out of the room*

*scene switch*

Hanna: Where did that crazy girl run off to? *looks around the deck again and spots Eve* ...Why is she just sitting there...staring at me...? *begins to walk over*

Eve: *thinks* Ack! She's coming over. I'm pretty sure I wasn't supposed to say anything but... eh, who cares what Cryptic says. Hi.

Hanna: Uh...hi... Wow, this is awkward... she seems fine now... I was wondering. Why did you say it wasn't safe earlier? You seemed pretty wound up about something. Is everything all right?

Eve: Well... *looks around to see Cryptic isn't here* Ok, you see that ship out there? *points*

Hanna: *looks back at the ship, which is still just barely noticeable in the dark* ....yes... *turns back to Eve* What about it?

Eve: Ok, well... *thinks of how to put it* I better explain something. Misty may or may not have told you about me. I'm Eve, her other. *it starts pouring out* The reason she came to Thorae. Now, I'm trying to find her, because she thinks I killed her sister, but... I didn't. And I want to tell her what really happened. But see, before I decided to tell her I ran into this guy, Cryptic. And well, he convinced me to help him help the CS, but I don't want to anymore. But if you've met Cryptic, you know that it's not easy to tell him that. Anyway, that ship has pirates that are going to attack at any minute. That's why I said you need to get EDJ and him *points at Brady* and get out of here. But your other friend, DJ isn't here. I'll try to get him to y'all. I promise. But please, don't make it look rushed or anything, because then Cryptic will know I said something. Does this all make sense?

Hanna: .... *stands in dumbfounded silence* .... *blinks* ....wha...what?... *narrows eyes as it all starts to sink in* ....so you're the one she was telling us about...and... the clown... *glances back at ship* ...pirates... *turns to Eve with a glare* Where is DJ?!

Eve: ... I see she has told you about me... *scratches head* Well, you see... He's on Cryptic's ship... but, Hanna, You shouldn't go there. It's really dangerous. I can get him for you... I have to try. *looks down* I can't exactly give you a reason for why you should trust me, But... *looks at Hanna with pleading eyes* Please do.
Oh, Hanna. *stands quickly* One last thing before I go to get DJ. Cryptic might try to kidnap you too. Don't let it happen. If he gets you, he'll turn you over to the CS and we can't let that happen. *starts to walk over to Cryptic's Jet Bike. Stops and turns to face Hanna* And Hanna, be careful and... don't let anything happen to Misty. *mumbles to self* Good thing this bike has a silencer, Cryptic shouldn't notice me missing for a while...

Cryptic: *continues walking down to where EDJ's room is, and quickly but quietly breaks into the room, only to find that EDJ isn't there*

EDJ: *walks down the hallway to Hanna's room and knocks on the door, then waits* Hanna? *knocks on the door again* Hanna! Ugh, she's probably somewhere else. I guess I'll check the deck...seems like a logical place to start. *starts running toward the deck*

Cryptic: *starts walking back up to the deck, only a few seconds behind EDJ*

*scene switch*

Eve: *flies bike to Orca* Let's see... Oh, there's the opening. *Flies bike into opening, parks it, and hops off* Now... *runs over to main control room* *scans map* There he is! Down the hall, first door on the left. *rolls eyes* Typical. *grabs keys, runs down, and stands in front of door* Here goes nothing. *opens door*

DJ: *squints at the sudden lightening of the room* Ah, hello. It's the weird Misty-duplicate again. Can I be of service to you? Oh yeah, I forgot. I'm chained to the wall. Sorry 'bout that.

Eve: Hello. *thinks* Weird is right. I don't feel normal, being all... nice. (OO) *looks back in the hall to see no one there* As you know, there isn't much time. *runs over and unchains DJ* Here, let me help you. *helps DJ up*

DJ: Ha, not much time at all. I thought you were with Cryptic. Thanks for helping me though. What exactly's going on anyway?

Eve: Err well... it's a long story. I'll explain on the way. As you know, pirates are attacking the ship, and Cryptic is going to... err... "visit" EDJ. Hanna knows what's going on. I hope And she said she would meet us at La'Esk. Is that ok with you?

DJ: It's good you let Hanna know. EDJ knows too...I tipped him off from here. Don't worry about how. They should have things under control, hopefully. You have any ideas what we should do? Maybe we could intercept the pirates or something...

Eve: Well, see... Walk while we talk. *starts walking out of room back to main room* Cryptic wants to take you to the CS, I'm not sure if you know that or not, to turn you in. I don't know why, he would never tell me. But he said that if we turned in either you or Hanna then we would be able to go back to Earth. He told me this a few months back, when we were planning. And back then it sounded like a good idea, but now... *sighs* I know it's not right. *turns and starts walking backwards so she can face DJ* Please believe me, I have no idea what's going on with me. I didn't used to be this way. And this is all still very strange to me. *walks over to controls* I would say, yes. Let's go stop the pirates, but... we can't risk them or Cryptic getting a hold of you, or Hanna, but especially both of you. I... I don't know what would happen. So, I say we go to La'Esk and meet them there, but what do you think?

DJ: *follows Eve* Brady passingly mentioned something about the CS using Hanna and I as a super-weapon or whatever. I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about...maybe that's why Cryptic needs us so much. Don't worry, I have no plans of letting anything like this happen again. But right now I think my friends need us, especially if these pirates really are about to attack. We're safer with the rest of the group, trust me. If we leave them there, they might not make it to La'Esk to join us in the first place.

Eve: I'm not sure you had any plans of this happening in the first place. *shrugs* Ok, if you say so. *looks around the controls* Now... doesn't this thing have any missiles or anything?! *turns to DJ* So then it looks like we have two options, unless you've got a plan. We can either; A. Go down there and try to fight them off or B. Look for something up here that would work. Which do you prefer?

DJ: Well, we could always try B and then go to A if it doesn't work. You helped Cryptic run this ship after all...isn't there anything on it we could use? *looks around the room quickly* A package of flares, a few weird-looking swords, the computers here...you wouldn't happen to have any idea what any of the pass codes on those things are, would you? *suddenly, he ducks behind a computer as a guard walks by*

Eve: *nods* Ok. err.. nay. He never told me stuff like tha-- *watches DJ duck and hears the guard behind her*

Guard: Lady Eve, how are you? Is everything in order?

Eve: *turns* Oh. Hi George, didn't hear you coming. I'm err... I'm fine. How are you doing?

George: I'm doing rather well, Lady Eve. I just heard your bike land and I thought I'd come check on you. How goes the...mission? *rolls eyes* Did Master Cryptic send you back here for your safety?

Eve: No, he doesn't know I'm here. Things have changed, George, and I need your help. *hopes he doesn't get mad*

George: Cryptic changed? Or you changed? Either way, I'm with you all the way. How can I help you?

Eve: I changed. I know this isn't right. *glances towards where DJ is hiding* We need to get him *walks over to DJ and pulls him out of hiding* and his friends to safety, away from the CS. They are on that ship down there, can you help us?

George: *stares at DJ with his mouth hanging open*

DJ: *waves* Hi.

George: Err...Cryptic is SOO going to kill us if he finds out, you know. Let's do it. I've had enough of his tyranny.

Eve: *shrugs* I know he will try. George, do you know the pass codes for the computers?

George: I'm afraid not, Lady Eve. Cryptic doesn't trust anyone but himself with those.

DJ: That's ok; we probably don't have the time to search through them anyway. Anything else we can use on the ship before we get back to the cruiser?

George: *thinks* Not really. There are a few flares, maybe a blaster gun or two, but that's probably about it.

Eve: I see... George, there are more bikes here, right?

George: Should be. Want me to check the back hangar and make sure?

DJ: That would be great, George.

Eve: Ok, I'll look around here to see if there's anything else. Maybe in Cryptic's room. I'll meet you there, George. Ok?

George: Of course, Lady Eve. I'll be waiting there for you and your friend. *leaves the room*

Eve: *nods* Ok

DJ: *grabs the flares and one of the strange swords* Woah, the thing has an inscription on it..."Dawn's Shadow"? *puts it down and looks at the others* "Hope Bringer", "Lion's Heart", "Icebreaker"...what is this?! Eve, do you have a bag I can store these in?

Eve: *turns to DJ* Umm... sure. *looks in cabinet under computers* Oh, here's one. *hands it to DJ* Ok. *grabs keys and starts to walk towards Cryptic's quarters*

DJ: Thanks. Hopefully my pack and the rest of my things are somewhere around here too. *puts the flares and the swords into the bag*

Eve: No problem.

DJ: I'm going to check a few of the other rooms for my gear while you check out Cryptic's, ok? And I'll try not to run into any....less-friendly guards. Meet you at the hangar.

Eve: *nods* Ok. Here. *tosses DJ most of the keys*

DJ: *catches them* Thanks. *starts walking down the hall* Well, I guess hope really does come from the most unexpected places...

Eve: *walks to Cryptic's room* Ah, this is it. *hesitates for a few moments, then opens the door* hhhmmm... *walks over to desk and rustles through some papers* What's this... *reads something about the CS* Hmmm, means nothing to me, but I'll give it to DJ. Maybe it means something to him. *walks over to closet* Well, *looks around the room* Nothing else in here really. *walks to hanger*

DJ: *looks through all the rooms but finds no trace of his gear* He probably threw it overboard or something. Well, I guess one of these swords here will work for now. *walks to hangar* Hey Eve, George.

George: Got three bikes ready for ya.

Eve: Hi. Ready? *hops on bike*

DJ: Ready. Thanks again, George. *grabs one of the bikes*

George: Eh, no problem. I just hope this is the right choice. *jumps onto the third bike and revs it up*

Eve: Ok. George, lead the way.

George: M...me? Are you sure?

DJ: It WOULD look more official with you leading.

Eve: *to George* Yes... you.

George: Alright, if you say so Lady Eve. *flies out of the hangar towards the cruiser*

DJ: *follows George*

Eve: *follows both*

*meanwhile*

EDJ: *gets to the deck and races over to Hanna* Hanna! The ship's going to be attacked! And DJ was taken by the CS! We've got to do something!

Hanna: *blinks while still trying to take in the situation* *abruptly turns to EDJ with a glare* ...and what do you propose we do?! Man the cannons and open fire on the pirates? Blindly attempt to rescue DJ from certain death?! Tell me what it is you have planned in that miniature brain of yours!

EDJ: *takes a step back* I....I...FORGET YOU! *shoves Hanna and runs off*

Hanna: *watches EDJ in stunned silence* ...I... *looks down and whispers* ...sorry... *sigh* There I go snapping at him again. *looks around* I've got to find him. I won't let the CS get their hands on any more of my friends. *a blast is heard and a pillar of water shoots up from the starboard side of the ship* *looks back to see the pirate ship swiftly approaching*

Cryptic: *bursts onto the deck and immediately attacks Hanna* You're coming with me, dead or alive! I prefer alive though, so the sooner we end this, the less damage I inflict. *waves hand over sword, giving it a fiery aura*

EDJ: *watches the ships approach and crouches in a ready position* Bring it on! I'll take out the entire ship if I have to. *as the first ship nears, EDJ does a double flip into the air and lands on the bow of the ship, slashing right through the first pirate to get near him* DIE, YOU FREAKS!

Hanna: *draws sword and brings it up to block Cryptic's attack* Stay away from me! *flies a safe distance into the air* I have to control this. If I let her take over, the results could be disastrous.

Cryptic: *stares up at Hanna* You think your tiny little wings will actually keep you safe up there? *points to one of the pirate ships where machine guns are pointed at Hanna* They're just waiting for my signal...I suggest that you come down. Let's talk about this in a civilized manner, shall we? *sheathes his sword and waits for Hanna*

Hanna: *warily looks from Cryptic to the machine guns and back* *lowers self closer to the deck, but keeps sword in ready position* What do you and the CS want from me?

Cryptic: ME and the CS? I think you've gotten it terribly confused. I want nothing to do with the CS. Consider this forced service if you will...once I deliver you or DJ to them, I'm free. For all I know, they just want me to deliver you to the tea party...I could care less. Now, I'd rather bring you unharmed, but that's up to you. We already have DJ, so I could kill you without a thought if I wanted. But they said it'd be better off for me if I got both of you.

Hanna: *glares* I'm not going anywhere with you. To think I would give myself up so freely to those who've been trying to kill me and my friends, you MUST be insane.

Cryptic: Don't blame the insanity on me, but rather on the CS. It's THEM that did this to me. Just ask EDJ over there. *points over to EDJ single-handedly slaughtering the pirate ship he landed on* Oh wait, you ruined THAT relationship too, didn't you? Oh well...at least you still have...nope, he's captured. What about......nah, he's still in the mirror. *shrugs* What else do you have to lose or destroy? Just come with me and leave the rest behind before you destroy them too.

Hanna: *lowers sword and drops to knees* ....I....I.... he's right....

Cryptic: *kneels down and speaks gently to Hanna amidst the ship being bombarded by pirate attacks*
Of course I'm right. Come with me and you can end all their suffering. The CS can take care of you and keep you safe from hurting anyone else. You know you want it.

*scene switch*

DJ: Eve, you sure you're up for this? Cryptic's going to be especially mad with YOU for double-crossing him.

Eve: yeah, well... what do you want me to do? I can't go back to the Orca. *sigh* Yes, I'll be fine... I hope

DJ: I don't know, I just wanted to make sure you weren't having any second thoughts. *turns to George* George! Do you see where Cryptic is?

George: Aye, sir. *points over to the deck*

DJ: Undoubtedly Hanna's going to be nearby. Probably EDJ and Brady too. We've got to stop Cryptic before he can unleash Hanna's evil side again!

Eve: *nods* Should we go over there, or help EDJ?

DJ: Isn't he on the ship?

Eve: ... but I thought that was him right there. *points at pirate ship* It sure looks like him.

DJ: *looks over* WOAH! That IS EDJ what over there...you two take Cryptic, I'll go help EDJ.

George: Roger that.

DJ: Thanks George. *flies over to the pirate ship*

Eve: Ok. *follows George*

DJ: *flies the bike right into a pirate that was about to slash EDJ from behind and jumps off, landing behind EDJ* Need a little help?

EDJ: DJ?! How'd you get out? I thought the CS had you! *slashes and cuts down an on-coming pirate*

DJ: Well, I had a little help. Misty's other, Eve, helped me out along with another guard. *ducks under a sweeping blow and stabs the attacking pirate, then looks around* Where's Hanna?

EDJ: Consorting with the pirates, no doubt. She was going to leave you and the others for dead.

Eve: Ok, George. let's go. *starts flying down there*

George: Aye, Lady Eve. *follows Eve to the ship*

My, my, time flies

Wow, amazing how much time flies, wouldn't you say?

Here it is, the long overdue post just so our faithful readers know we haven't jumped through a portal to Thorae and forgotten you. ^_^

We ARE still writing, believe it or not. It's just going really, really slow... *blames coauthors*

I know you're all dying to know what happens. Will they rescue Lui before it's too late? Will the CS use DJ and Hanna to destroy Earth? Will Hanna defeat her evil side? Will Brady ever stop whining?

Only time will tell. ;)

Because you have been so patient, I decided to give you some of what we have so far. Part 25, for instance. Ok? *nods* ok

Part Twenty-Four

Part Twenty-Four

Orpheus: Grrrr.... You little whelp! You destroyed my creation!... *Picks Jester up by the neck and turns to Hanna* What's that, girl? Kill him you say?

Jester: *choking and gasping for breath*

Hanna: *Slowly stands* Leave him alone.....
*Glares and begins to tremble with rage* Leave all my friends ALONE!!

Christina: Morpheus, you'd better stop. I don't think Mr. Wimpy likes that, you might kill him. *Looks at Hanna* Uh-oh...She's doing it again... Morpheus, run for your life! She's gonna kill us all!

Hanna: *dashes at Orpheus with incredible speed and whacks off the arm holding Jester*

Zione: That doesn't really work, you know. At least it didn't with DJ. He sliced his head open and threw a sword through his heart and it didn't do anything. I cut off Brady's arm and it just grew back.

EO: Then what can be done to slow them down? I won't let him hurt anyone again! *pulses with dark energy*

DJ: *coughs* Hanna...be careful.

Orpheus: *Just as Jester falls from his severed arm, Orpheus stabs him with an Eternal Knife* Your head said spare him. But your heart said otherwise, girl.

Jester: *lying on the floor, not moving* .........................

Zione: See what I mean?

EO: You fiend! *fires bolts of energy at Orpheus*

Hanna: *Whispers* ...Jester... *closes eyes and turns head away* You will suffer for that, Orpheus!! *when she looks back at Orpheus, tears are streaming from her blood-red eyes*
*charges at Orpheus* GrrraaaAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! *Deals varying attacks, slashing and hacking at him in utter fury. Pulls left arm back, creating a spear of ice elongating from her hand. She jabs the spear through Orpheus and slashes his neck with her sword*

Zione: Why not? *creates an assortment of weapons and throws them all at Orpheus*

DJ: *slowly stands up* How is this going to solve anything?

Brady: Hanna... over here! *Throws her an Eternal Knife similar to Orpheus' except blue, as opposed to red* Use that. It's the only thing that can be used by a human to kill an Akadi.

Orpheus: *Eyes widen* Where did you get that?!

Iul: How come I don't get one?

Brady: There's only two in existence, that's why.

Hanna: *Catches the knife and stabs it through Orpheus' heart with absolutely no mercy* That ...was for my friends...

Orpheus: You... won't understand... until it's too late.... I w-- 402 bit
Trans.....*static* Bit-shift error.... encoded file not.... *static* found.

Brady: *Turns around facing away from the others with eyes closed* We're all just machines....

Iul: Lovely. What happens to Orpheus now?

Zione: You mean to say it was really that simple? I risked my life to save you people, and Brady here could have just told me about this dumb knife that would end it just like that! This is the last time I try to help you people. I'm out of here... *flies off*

Brady: Well, it has it's side effects. *Creates fields of negative space around characters, including Zione*

3...2........1...

*Orpheus explodes, rupturing the ground below, collapsing the foundation of the fortress.*

*Brady snaps his fingers and the energy bubbles enclosing the characters floats them to a wide, open field. As they land, Brady says something*

Brady: There is only one human who could have defeated him without that knife.

Zione: Can I go now? I've had about enough of your foolishness. Or are you going to kill me off as just another loose end like Orpheus wanted to?

DJ: Zione, I could really care less what you do at this point. Now, what were you talking about, Brady?

Iul: Yeah, and where are we this time?

Brady: Where exactly where we need to be! Why do you continually question my knowledge?! It's obvious with what we have been doing that you would all have been dead if I didn't know what I was doing!
I'm not going to kill anyone. Those who want to rescue Lui, follow me. Those who have other business, be gone!

Zione: Finally! I thought you'd never stop talking... *flies off again*

Iul: No, we're exactly where you want us to be! You didn't answer my question...I just want a physical location.

DJ: It would be nice. Now that it seems we're free from distractions, let's all just stop and figure out what's going on, if only for a few minutes. Lui is still waiting for us, after all.

Brady: We're in front of Haltur. From there, we can take a ship to the continent that Clockwork Tower is on.

Iul: Good. Now, I'm not sure why you're here yet. I mean, you're from the future or something, right? And you're dependent on Hanna's success for some reason, I gather.

DJ: Yeah, we've been in different groups for most of the time we've been in Thorae, so I haven't heard most of your story.

Christina: *puppy dog eyes* Legoman betrayed me and now he's dead. Zione said he was my friend and then he leaves. EDJ promised to teach me the evil laugh, but he can't even keep his own promise. What's the point of having friends?

Hairam: *puts her hand on Christina's shoulder* I'm still your friend.

Christina: That's not the point! You're my Other, you're supposed to be my friend!

Hairam: Even if I wasn't your Other, I'd still be your friend. You're awesome!

Christina: Yeah, you're right I am! ^_^ *pulls out crystal ball* Ah, I am needed back at Earth! They seem to have an awesome deficiency! Bye guys, Have fun storming the castle or clocktower, whatever it is... *Walks off*

Hanna: *low voice* Hairam...I would appreciate it if you went with her. Go back while you still can.

Hairam: But...

Hanna: Just go. I'll see you back at HQ.

Hairam: *concerned look but smiles* You'll save him, Hanna, I know you will. *she catches up with Christina*

Brady: ... Okay. Let's do this. You guys up to it?

Hanna: *somewhat distracted* Hmm...? Yeah, sure.

Brady: Data extraction 60% complete.
Good. Then let's hurry. *Runs toward the town gate*

Iul: Apparently no story... *runs after Brady*

DJ: Ready, Hanna? It looks like we're finally making some progress in rescuing Lui again. This has been a crazy adventure, hasn't it?

Hanna: *downcast look* *thinks to herself* I killed him...I killed a threat to my friends, but in so doing I also killed a friend I was trying to save... What hope can there possibly be for me to save Lui...if I end up killing him as well?
*frustrated sigh* Crazy...
*Begins to fly ahead, but stops. Turns back to DJ, worry in her blue eyes* Are you all right? You were pretty exhausted after fighting Orpheus.

DJ: Yeah, I think I'm alright. I just worked myself too hard fighting Orpheus. How about you? I mean you seem a little...distracted. *thinks* What was it that happened to me back there? What happens if I can't control it next time? I don't want to hurt any of my friends...
Hanna: I’m fine… *Thinks* No, I’m not... *Takes a deep breath* ...I....lost control again. I hate it when that happens... and I’m worried about what may happen if she gets out again. The closer we get to rescuing Lui, the more my hope dwindles...
You know what? It’s nothing, really. I’m just a little tired, that’s all. I shouldn’t be saying such things. There’s no need to be burdening you with my own fears. ...Just forget it.

DJ: Alright. Just remember that we're here to help you if she gets out again. I think all of us could use a break, honestly. Let's get to Haltur, and I'll talk to Brady about resting for a little while. I think we're going to need all the strength we have from this point on. *thinks* What's going to happen, even if we do find Lui? I can't believe we've come this far already...I hope he's still alright.

Hanna: Agreed. *sincere yet sad smile* I’m glad you’re here, DJ. I couldn’t have gotten this far without your help. Or Brady’s for that matter. As long as we're still here, there may yet be hope after all.
*Thinks* For now...

DJ: I think there's always hope. We'll make this work.

Hanna: There is always hope...?
*contemplates this for a bit then nods* Of course. We've come too far to give up now. Forgive me, I should not have lost hope so easily. Lui is still waiting for us. *looks ahead* And so are Brady and EDJ...

DJ: *looks* Yeah, I guess you're right. We should probably get going, before they decide to leave us behind or something.

EO: *yells back to DJ and Hanna* Hey! Come on, let's get moving before I die of old age here!

Hanna: Even in such times, he retains his deprived sense of humor. Even death does not faze him... *thinks to herself* Come on, get over it already. Sacrifices must be made in order to achieve any goal. It won't do anyone any good to linger on mistakes. We need to press forward. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. ...but... how many more must suffer in order to save Lui? How many more will die in my stead? What if... *looks back at DJ* What if I lose ALL of them? What if they ALL die... because of me? *whispers* I won't let that happen. *Flies ahead*

DJ: Hanna...you've been through so much suffering already. How much more will we be exposed to in the trials to come? *runs toward the rest of the group*

Hanna: *lands near Brady* *with new resolve* So, where to next? We have to get a ship or something, right?

EO: Unless you want to swim across.

Hanna: Funny. In actuality, I wouldn’t mind going for a swim... Oh well, now is not the time for that.

EO: I'll give you a push in, if it'll help.

DJ: *catches up with the rest of the group* Well then, is everybody ready?

EO: Ready, Speedy.

Brady: I've been ready. We'd better head straight for the dock.

DJ: Great. *starts walking toward dock*

EDJ: Maybe we'll actually get somewhere without taking about a thousand side-tracks.

Hanna: *Nods* It should be easier now without so many people. Even so... *turns to Brady* ...every time you're about to tell me exactly who or what you are, something bad happens.

EDJ: Yeah, and you just completely ignored me last time I asked.

Brady: It's because none of you need to know.

Hanna: *quizzical look* But... you said you were here to protect me, did you not? You were insistent upon providing me with further knowledge of the situation. Now you rebuff my attempts to understand.
I don't get it.

DJ: And how are we to know you're not just another Orpheus, just with a different set of motives? We don't know that you won't just attempt to kill us off after we help you with whatever you're supposed to be doing.

Brady: Due to recent circumstances, I've decided it's best that you don't know. And I won't kill you as long as it's in my power to prevent. Now, let's catch that ship! *Walks to the dock*

Hanna: Recent circumstances, huh? Of course, NOW he doesn't want to tell me. *shakes head* No use in trying to get answers, he only leaves more questions. *follows Brady to the dock*

EDJ: Maybe it's because he's afraid of me or something.

DJ: I highly doubt that, Iul. Still, it is unnerving.
*follows Brady and Hanna to the dock*

*After a while of Brady conversing with the dock attendant*

Brady: Alright. We've got our ship rooms. We have to make do with three rooms. DJ, Iul, you two can share a room. It's a two day sail from here to the port of La'Esk. It's a bit colder there, so we'll need some heavier gear.

EDJ: Two days? Blech...this is going to be a long trip, I think.

DJ: I'll grab some gear, if you guys want. When does the boat leave?

Brady: In about half an hour. I'd hurry up if I were you.

DJ: Alright. *runs back to town to pick up supplies*

EDJ: If there's nothing else that needs doing, I'm going to board the ship.

Brady: ...
*Doesn't say anything to Hanna but walks right past her*

Hanna: *watches Brady intently* *thinks* I don't understand you at all. But I am willing to put up with you until we rescue Lui. That was the deal. Although you still have yet to explain how exactly we rescue him. Why do you avoid my questions? What is it you don't want me to know?

EDJ: Okaay then. *ignores the others and walks to the deck of the ship*

Mysterious voice: Hello, Iul. It's nice to see you again.

EDJ: Cryptic? Why are you following us?

Cryptic: Ah, so glad that you remembered me. I see you survived my greeting to Thorae earlier. Consider it as a test.

EDJ: I ought to kill you for that.

Cryptic: And yet here I am, still alive and enjoying life.

EDJ: Whatever.

Cryptic: Same old Iul. Anyway, I'm following you because I heard about your other. Anything I can do to help?

EDJ: Seriously? Why would you want to help us?

Cryptic: I need a change of pace. Besides, I'm on the same ship as you; we might as well talk about it.

EDJ: Maybe later. I've got to do some stuff first though.

Cryptic: Yeah, sure. Just don't forget about it. *walks away*

EDJ: *sighs* Cryptic...I wonder what the others would say about this.

Brady: *Walks closer to Hanna and whispers in her ear* What you do here... Is the future of the Earth.

Hanna: *Takes a step back in surprise* ......
*blinks a few times then glares at Brady* ...I don't care.

Brady: That makes it easier, you know.

Hanna: *frustrated sigh* Whatever, I've had enough of this. *turns around and walks toward the ship*

*Brady is already nowhere in sight*

Brady: She gets so frustrated with me. Countless times I save her life, which, in turn, saves her friends’ lives. She's a lot less grateful than I had expected. *Chuckles to himself*
Oh well. She's strong, and she hosts that fury within her. It makes a great tool when need be...

Hanna: *mutters to herself while boarding ship* Pfft, future of the Earth...ridiculous. As if the entire world revolves around me. I know better than that. The Earth is just fine without me.

EDJ: *sees Hanna and walks over* Hey there. We might have a teeny little problem...

Hanna: *glares and EDJ* I don't want to hear it! If you have a problem, take it up with the Terminator. I have enough to worry about! So just back off!

EDJ: *stares* You don't have to be so rude, you know. And to think I almost made you my apprentice. That would have been a mistake. Fine, I'll go talk to Robby Robot over there.

Hanna: Fine by me! *storms off to another part of the ship* And don't you EVER bring that apprentice thing up again! Never! ..... *sigh* *whispers* ...why can't anyone just ever leave me alone?

EDJ: Most dysfunctional group of heroes I've ever seen. It's a wonder they've even made it this far. Goth girl, robot boy, and that weakling I call my other...what a joke. I can't believe I have to play along with them.

Hanna: What's wrong with me?! Why can't anything ever work out right? I even snapped at EDJ and, for once, he didn't deserve it. *sigh* Listen...Iul...I'm...sorry. I didn't mean to scream at you like that....

EDJ: Wait...I think that's the first time you've called me by that name. Interesting. Anyway, apology accepted. And I promise to leave the past the past.

Hanna: I can always go back to calling you EDJ, if you'd prefer. Thanks though. I'm just... frustrated right now. Nothing ever gets any easier.

EDJ: Hah, tell me about it. Right now, I'm focused on taking down the CS, so I'm not terribly worried about other things that I probably should worry about. Like me having to go back to Earth after this is over.

Hanna: Yeah, go back to Earth and face imprisonment.

EDJ: Exactly. Not really the greatest thought in the world, you know.

Hanna: I guess not. Let's just see how all this plays out first and cross that bridge when we get to it. What happens to everyone after we rescue Lui is really the least of my worries.

EDJ: Yeah, I guess it's not terribly high on the priority list right now, is it? I wonder how Lui's doing. I do want you to know that I had nothing to do with trapping him like that.

Hanna: Maybe not, but you seemed pretty apathetic about it in the beginning.... wait, why are you telling me this? Why do you care if I think you're to blame for this or not?

EDJ: Just making sure that got cleared up so you don't try to kill me in my sleep for something I didn't do. Or something like that. When I was still on Earth, I was in my evil form. Returning here seemed to reverse that, for whatever reason. I feel like the old Iul again.

Hanna: *Tilts head to side* Do you think you'll be staying that way? I admit, you haven't been all that much of a pain since joining us. At least, not as much as I had anticipated.

EDJ: Honestly, I'm not sure. I hope so...I don't want to cause trouble for anybody. Well, except for the Clockwork Syndicate. They can have all the trouble they want.

Hanna: I still don't understand why they keep attacking us. I certainly didn't do anything to them before coming here. *whispers to self* Then again... I might have... all my memories of Thorae are still in fragments...

EDJ: And they were attacking you guys before I came, right?

Hanna: Hmm... When we first came... ah, maybe that's it. The rebel organization... something or other. Yeah, that's probably it. I wonder what ever happened to them.

EDJ: Well, Jester's dead, and who knows where Naomi is. They're missing their two top officials...can't be good for them.

Hanna: Please stop bringing Jester up....I hate myself enough as it is. I can't even begin to imagine what it's going to be like when Ace finds out.

EDJ: Oh yeah, with what Orpheus said and all. Try not to let it bother you too much...it's typical evil-person junk. Anyway...I hope DJ gets back soon, because we're leaving pretty quick.

Hanna: Evil person..... *sigh* Oh, yeah, what was it you wanted to tell me earlier?

EDJ: .......it was something important. Oh, that's right! Um, you remember the guy who tried to shoot us down over the Gaea Rift earlier? He's here on the boat.

Hanna: The guy that... wait, the clown?! What's he doing here?

EDJ: Yeah, Cryptic. I have no idea what he's doing here...but he said something about wanting to help. And that earlier, he was testing us.

Hanna: Test? ....and he thinks we're just going to let him help us after trying to kill us?! Pfft, boy does he have another thing coming...

EDJ: You know, he and I used to be friends for the short time I lived here. It's no coincidence he's here. Try not to kill him without finding out what he wants, ok?

Hanna: *glares* It's not a habit of mine to kill people, you know. I didn't mean for that to happen. I just got so....angry.

EDJ: Oh...that was kind of insensitive of me, wasn't it? Sorry, I'm still not quite used to the whole 'not being evil' thing.

Hanna: It's not something you get used to easily. *sighs* Forget it.

EDJ: Yeah, probably not a bad idea. You need some cheering up, I think.

Hanna: *rolls eyes* Oh yeah, I'm just waiting for someone to come and hand me a big bucket of smiles, rainbows, and lollipops....

EDJ: Like Lui.

Hanna: *stares in shock* ..... *starts to cry* ...don't.... *looks down trying to come up with an answer* ....Lui.... *falls to her knees* I never wanted this to happen to him! But it's all because of me... *buries her head in her hands and begins sobbing*

EDJ: Oh...that wasn't quite the cheering up I was thinking of. *kneels down* Hanna, I'm so sorry for everything.

Hanna: *suddenly looks up with a hate filled glare* Don't you get it?! I'M the one to blame! I let this happen! Everything goes wrong for me! EVERYTHING! I don't deserve friends! My life is filled with hate and fear! And I don't know why! Stay way from me! Just...just leave me to drown in my own self pity... I'm not worth helping....

EDJ: No, I'm the one that caused it, by interfering in your lives like I did. I was the one that started the entire thing by making you rescue your friends, and then, well, you know. But now we're here to fix what's happened, right? I know that it's not going to be perfect, but who really wants it that way anyway? Life's not worth living without the failures, the trials, and the adventures that come from these things.

Hanna: *Sniffles* It doesn't matter.... None of it matters.... I fail at everything I do.... There is no hope. *blankly stares off into the distance* I will always.... be alone.

EDJ: No! I won't allow it. We're going to change things, you just wait and see.

*DJ runs to the ship, boards, and walks over to where he can listen in quietly*

EDJ: Just trust me. Things will get better. That's a promise.

Hanna: *turns to look at EDJ* I made promises too.... *resumes staring into space* Hopeless...

EDJ: There's no such thing as hopeless.

Hanna: *voice void of any emotion* Then what am I?

EDJ: Desperate for something to believe in. Something I can't give you.

Hanna: *turns back to EDJ with focused eyes* And who can, hmm? Who can help me? Do you even know what this something is?

EDJ: No. But that's where your hope comes from. You have to look for that something. It's the journey that gives you hope.

Hanna: That doesn't even make sense. *stands up* No one can help me. And so...I return to the way I was...before friends. Friends only get in the way.

EDJ: Nonsensical, maybe. But that's sort of how I understand it, and I'm doing alright, even with what I have to face.

DJ: What's he doing, trying to confuse her even more?

Hanna: Unless you have something reasonable to say, I suggest you stop wasting your breath.

EDJ: Reasonable? How about, let's go get Lui.

Hanna: Lui? Oh yeah, him. I guess... Who are we waiting on?

DJ: That would be Brady, as usual.

EDJ: *turns* How long have you been listening?

DJ: Long enough.

Hanna: *turns her back to both DJ and EDJ, hiding her red eyes from view* Do you always listen in on things that don't involve you?

DJ: He's my other, isn't he?

EDJ: We were just talking about an old friend of mine, that's all. Nothing important, right Hanna?

Hanna: Friend? Heh, I couldn't possibly care less. Ugh, where's Brady? We'll never get anywhere at this rate.

DJ: I'm sure he's around here somewhere. Probably went straight to his room to recharge or something. I'll just leave you two alone, if that's what you want.

Hanna: Don't bother, we're done here. *whispers* Good thing too. I hate going through an emotional breakdown every time she can't handle the truth.
*walks to the back of the ship avoiding eye contact with either DJ or EDJ* If you need me... do without.

EDJ: Fine. It's not like Lui's important to you or anything, it seems. Maybe it'd be better if DJ and I just go take care of it. You don't seem to care anymore. Go find somebody else to bother!
*storms off*

DJ: Hanna, I'm sorry. Evil other on the loose... *follows EDJ*

Brady: *Sits on bed thinking* Ace? Where are you? I need your help...

Hanna: So EDJ actually cares? Disappointingly weak... *looks around* Why aren't we moving yet?! This is taking forever.

EDJ: Seriously, what's with her? It's so obvious that she' head-over-heels for Lui, but she's too dumb to do anything about it.

DJ: *catches up to EDJ* Come on, Iul. I know she's hard to deal with sometimes, but she really does care on the inside.

EDJ: I know that. I just wish she'd acknowledge it and get on with life.

Hanna: *sits on railing* I wonder how long I can keep this up. DJ's sure to notice, he picks up on these things pretty quickly. Oh well, I guess it doesn't really matter. *sigh* I'm bored... and hungry... *glances at DJ and EDJ* Now what could they possibly be talking about?

DJ: You ought to know that nothing is ever that simply, Iul.

EDJ: Yeah, but she's way off normal, even for her.

DJ: She did seem different earlier. Maybe the stress is catching up with her finally.

Brady: *Sits on bed, writing on scratch paper* These algorithms... don't match the estimated data. Could something have changed the statistics? *Looks up from paper* I'll bet it was her. She's always changing her data. Sometimes I wish I was that adaptable... *Looks back down at paper and scribbles some numbers.*
...
*Disturbed expression* I am...?

Hanna: Hmm... I wonder if my base is still here. Someone probably found it by now and destroyed it. Heh, it would be ironic if it was the CS. Ugh, I'm bored out of my mind here. *hops back onto the deck* Now, where's the kitchen?

Brady: *Hears thumping noise above his room* Ugh. Only a few people I know can make that racket, and half of them aren't on this ship at the moment. *Walks out of his room and upstairs*
*Talks to self* Where's that noise coming from?...

Hanna: *wanders around a bit before seeing Brady* Uh-oh. He's definitely going to know... Maybe I can hide... No, bad idea. I guess I should just face him and get this over with.
Brady: *Waves at Hanna in a rather friendly manner* What's all the noise for, Hanna?

EDJ: *sees Brady walking over to Hanna* Hey DJ, let's go listen.

DJ: Cool.

Hanna: *oblivious to DJ and EDJ* You can stop pretending. You already know. Don't bother doing anything about it though.

Brady: *Blank stare* You mean the fact that "evil Hanna" is taking over your body? It's no big deal, really. Eventually, it will fester to the point where you can't host evil Hanna anymore, and she will become her own being. But, you knew that already. *Leans over railing, staring at the water*
Well, I'm not going to do anything about it. It's a problem that not even having friends can help. It's a battle with yourself, and we can't fight it for you or even help you fight it at all. You just have to trust that you're going to win, I suppose.

Hanna: *glares* Don't talk to me as though I am some pest that needs to be removed. I have full control for now. Don't even think about trying to give her a sense of hope. Life is full of entropy and pain. I'm here because she needs me. I do what I can to survive. When there is a threat, I extinguish it for her. In all honesty, she needs me to do what she herself cannot; kill.

Brady: *blatantly* Maybe so, but she doesn't need you if you're the reason she needs to kill in the first place.

EDJ: Oh, so that's what's up.

DJ: I hope she's alright.

Hanna: Such insolence… *sneers* Too bad we can’t all enjoy life, huh? *a little louder* Why not stand a little closer to the conversation, DJ? That way you can hear us better and maybe even join in.
*looks Brady in the eye*You will be dealt with when the time comes. Don’t think for a moment that I can’t destroy you, because I can and I will. I only have to put up with you until I get what I want. Then I will be in control permanently and nothing will stand in my way.

EDJ: If that's evil Hanna, what could she possibly want with Lui?

DJ: Nothing good, I'm sure. I don't think there's anything we can do right now though. *walks over to Hanna and Brady, followed by EDJ*

EDJ: Hello again.

Brady: You'll be in control of what? Me? Your friends? Or maybe something bigger... The world, perhaps? Because if so, I'm not the only one standing in your way of that.

Hanna: Heh, I will be in control of her. Then it doesn't matter if I want to take over the world or not. She certainly won't be there to stop me. Though there is one slight problem with my plan... Ah well, once I finish this, it's over.

EDJ: If you weren't Lui's friend, you'd be dead already. Remember who's been evil longer here, missy. Or was it Moody?

DJ: Iul, don't provoke her. You'll just make it worse.

Hanna: Heh, he attempts to anger me. Unwise. Name-calling has no bearing on me. Rather the part of me I need to break.

Brady: Explain how you're going to break someone stronger than you.

Hanna: *smirks* The worst kind of enemy is one with nothing to lose, right? *begins to walk away* Fine. You want her back, you can have her.

Brady: Either way, you're making my job pretty easy.

Hanna: *stops* And what is your job exactly? *turns back* To kill me? You kill me, you kill her. From what I can tell, you can't let her die. You certainly can't continue protecting a threat. What else could it be?

Brady: Ignorance is bliss, my dear.

DJ: You two both worry me, you know.

EDJ: It's official...you've both lost it. But I wonder...did either of you even have it to begin with?

Hanna: Hmph. *glares at DJ* You should worry. You will die with the rest of them when the time comes. *glances at EDJ* You too. To think I'd actually get somewhere siding with you. Pitiful. You are swiftly losing your usefulness. But like I said, this will all be over soon enough. Enjoy what semblance of a life you have till then. *walks downstairs*

DJ: She sounds an awful lot like Orpheus did, from what Zione was saying.

EDJ: Pitiful? I'm not losing my usefulness, am I? ...

Hanna: *walks into room and sits on bed* You can't keep me locked in forever. But you can have control for now. *blinks a few times and looks at the mirror* Blue again. Just like that. You gave up? Why? What do you want from me? *sigh* I can't keep this up... Every time you get out, someone gets hurt. I should have never come.

DJ: *follows Hanna toward room and knocks on the door* Hanna?

Hanna: *sigh* Go away. Get as far away from me as you possibly can. You can save Lui, I can't.

DJ: I'm not leaving until we talk. And the longer I stay here, the more EDJ irritates Brady, so you should just let me in.

Hanna: Fine. *gets up and opens door* There, it's open. Happy?! *sigh* ...sorry... I ... *sits on bed* I can't do this.

DJ: Thanks. *walks in* You can trust your friends to help you, you know. We're all here for you, regardless of the situation. Like back in Iul's castle on Everest, we were there for you. And we still are now.

Hanna: Yeah... you were there for me... *downcast look* But apparently my friends can't save me, can you?

DJ: I guess we won't know until we try. *thinks* There must be something I can do. Maybe the CS could help. I'm desperate enough that I'd go to them for help right now.
Brady: *Walks to the entrance of her room and clears throat* Ahem. I lost Iul in the mess hall... Care to let me in? I heard what you were... well, thinking, and I need to ask you something DJ. Do you even know what the CS' purpose is? Do you realize what they'd do if they got a hold of you? Especially Hanna.

DJ: Iul's loose? With that attitude? He's likely to kill half the people up there! I guess this has to be quick. No, but why bring that up randomly?

Brady: Hah. Iul's not going to kill anyone. Have you seen his eyes lately? The evil flare has faded. I suppose all us do good-ers are starting to rub off on him. Anyway... I bring it up "randomly" for one simple reason. I think you two should know what you're up against.

Hanna: Now you want to tell us? You have the weirdest timing, but I'm not stopping you. Exactly how does the CS fit into all this? What are they capable of? *quizzically turns to DJ* And what were you thinking of that would involve the CS?

*back in Tellius*

Alzymus: Interesting. I can take us back...but I don't know about Zione by this time. He's probably gone off doing something evil.

Naomi: Well, looks like you'll just have to catch him again! Now, take us back.

Ace: I would imaging the airship has crashed already... right?

Alzymus: Probably.

Misty: Ok, so how do we get out of here, Alzymus?

Alzymus: Well, we'd have to go to the deployment center. There's a transporter there, that's how I went to Thorae the first time.

Naomi: Is it always this cold in Tellius?

Ace: So we just have to get to that deployment center. Right?

Alzymus: Basically. I think it's about fifteen miles to the west of here, at the end of this plain. We might have a small problem getting you three through the center, but I'll work that out.

Misty: What problem would there be?

Naomi: Knowing this little escapade, it's probably: A) Evil monsters, B) Lava, C) A natural fault in the land making passing dangerous, or D) All of the above.

Ace: I have to agree with you there. *Turns to Alzymus for an answer*

Alzymus: Guards. They're not terribly fond of outsiders. Last time outsiders tried to enter the deployment center, the live reaper turrets tore them apart.

Misty: ... I see. So, what should we do about it?

Ace: Oh, well that shouldn't be a problem. We could have Naomi sneak up and disable them before we enter...

Naomi: Sounds fun! >:3

Alzymus: Alright, if you think she's fast enough. If that doesn't work, I have another idea. They shouldn't attack me, so I might be able to get into the control room and disable the reapers. That would make it easier for you to get in. We'll have to figure out what to do with the human guards, but that should be simpler.

Misty: Alright, sounds good.

Naomi: Why didn't you just say that in the first place? We'll go with that second option. Kay? *sigh of relief*

Alzymus: Alright. Anything else we need to discuss, or shall we be going?

Misty: I don't think so. Which way did you say it was?

Naomi: Yes. I need to ask you something. Where in Thorae will the transporter lead us?

Alzymus: I'm not completely sure. When I went through before, I had one of the officers do it. I guess it can take you to a specific heat signature, or to a general location. So it depends, really.

Ace: We need to know where in Thorae we want it to take us. Why don't we just have it warp us straight to Clockwork Tower?

Misty: That would work. Or do you think we should try to find one of the other groups?

Naomi: No, no. I like Ace's idea. We need to get this over with.

Alzymus: Ok, I'll see what we can do. We'll figure out how to make it work once we get there.

Misty: *shrugs* ok we can go straight there.

*a cloud of dust starts rising from the ground about fifteen feet away from the party*

Naomi: ... What is that?...

Alzymus: Beats me...

Misty: *starts backing up* What is going on? *backs up so far she falls off cliff* What is tttthhhhhaaaa...

*Misty finds herself in her office* Woah, that was weird, what happened?

Sarah: I portaled you here.

Misty: ... Why? My mission isn't over yet! We still haven't found Lui, we're all separated. I need to get back there and help!

Sarah: Ok, ok. But first, there's some things I need to give you. Here's some more food, and a phone so you can get in touch with me. ;D

Misty: Ok thanks. Now has anything happened that I should know about?

Sarah: ... yes. But it would take to long to explain. Just tell Alzymus to transport you to La'Esk. That's where the others are going. Remember that, k?

Misty: Alright I will. Hey, have you seen Talon anywhere? He got separated.

Sarah: Yup, here he is. Now you better get going.

Misty: *Talon hops on Misty's arm* ok. *steps through portal*

*scene switch*

*the cloud of dust erupts into a pillar of sand and a large wyrm-like creature comes out of the ground, followed by five bandits*

Bandit: Alzymus! Surrender yourself now or die!

Naomi: Rrrrgh! NO!

Ace: Saw that one coming. *Draws sword*

Alzymus: Bandits! Hurry, we need to get you to the deployment center! *creates shotgun and starts shooting at the wyrm while pushing the party westward*

Ace: You mean you don't need us to fight?

Naomi: That's no fun.

Alzymus: Now that I'm thinking about it, we can draw them to the deployment center and let them take the defenses out. Then after that, we fight them. It might work...

Ace: If we are luring them there, then we will get near the turrets first, us being the obvious first targets. I say strategy over strength. We lose them and then make our way to the deployment center.

Naomi: That idea is even less fun than bird-boy's!

Alzymus: Good point. *sighs* Well then, how should we go about losing them. I'm usually on the other end of this sort of thing...

Naomi: How about we use the deployment center guards as decoys? That way that's less security we have to worry about. We have guards chase us, we hop into a tree quickly, lose the guards, lose the goons, and live happily ever after.

Alzymus: We could give it a try. After all, it's basically what I said, just changed a little.

Naomi: *Shrugs* I guess you're right. Let's go!

Ace: Alright.

*They run, still being pursued, and eventually reached the deployment center.*

Alzymus: Well then, here it is. Those plant-like creatures on the perimeter are the turrets, and they can fire poisoned darts at us. They have a pretty long range too, so be careful. Now, we have to draw the bandits in toward the guards and then find a way to lose all of them so they can take each other out.
You still with us, Misty?

Misty: *goes back to see group running* Hey guys! Wait up! *turns and sees bandits* Oh, now I see what's going on. Yes I'm still here! So what are we doing exactly?!

Alzymus: We're going to get the bandits and those guards up there to kill each other so we can go back to Thorae.

Misty: Oh ok. Aw man, there was something I was supposed to tell you. What was it! *thinks then says* Oh yeah! You need to take us to La'Esk, not the CS tower or whatever it's called. Can you get the transporter to take us there?

Alzymus: I think so, as long as it's in the transporter's database. Wait, all of us need to go?

Misty: That's what Sarah said. Is it a problem? If it is you can send just me I guess...

Alzymus: Sarah?

Misty: Yeah, Sarah. She's my partner. That's kinda where I disappeared to. But she's been tracking everyone and she said we need to be there.

Alzymus: I don't think it's too much trouble, as long as Ace and Naomi don't mind.

Misty: Yeah Ace, is that ok?

Ace: Wherever we need to go is just fine with me. In fact, Brady and his team should already be well into the La'Esk continent by now.

Naomi: *Ears fold down a bit* You mean we don't get to rush into Clockwork Tower and charge the enemy head-on?

Ace: I suppose not. Don't you think it's better for us to have the others with us for storming the tower anyway? We need to have all the power we can get.

Naomi: *Soft tone* You and I are strong enough to take them on together... *Normal voice* Oh, and you too Alzymus.

Alzymus: You two should just elope or something. At any rate, let's get out of view before the bandits catch up and ruin the entire plan.

Ace: *"Ugh" face* Um, yeah...

Naomi: *Angry expression* What did you say?! Grrrrr... The nerve of you men sometimes! Sheesh, you totally have the wrong idea! *Angry squeals*

Ace: Moving right along then... *Runs*

Misty: *snicker, snicker* Oh I mean, *ahem* yup. *runs too* How about those bushes over there?

Ace: *Hides in bushes*

Alzymus: Works for me. *follows Ace*

Misty: Ok, *dives in bushes*

Naomi: *Continues running, in clear sight if the bandits* Hey evil guuuuuys~! I'm over here!! I'll bet you can't catch meee~! *Sticks tongue out and leads them away around the side of the entrance hall*

Ace: Well... that works... Come on. *Rushes to the inside of the building*

Misty: *stares after Naomi*... *shrugs* Ok I'm coming. *follows Ace* Ok, which way? Left, right or... *looks at stairs* or down?

Alzymus: Oh. *walks into the building with Ace and Misty* Eh, down the stairs and take the first left. Then it's down the hall.

Misty: Ok, you seem to know where you are going, so lead the way.

Alzymus: Sure. Just look out for any guards that might still be here, just in case.

Misty: Alright. You comin’ Ace?
Ace?
*looks around and sees shadow up ahead* Oh, I guess he ran ahead. *to Alzymus* Come on!

Alzymus: Right. *leads Misty into the deployment center*

Misty: Ok I'm coming. *follows Alzymus*

Ace: Nice of you to catch up. So this is the DC. Kinda advanced compared to our HQ.

Misty: Yeah, HQ needs to upgrade big-time. But the waterfall is pretty cool.

Alzymus: State of the art. It's used for more than just bounty hunting business as well, you know. Anyway, you guys should let me go in first to make sure they're all right with you guys. I'd hate to make a mess of the transporter room.

Misty: Ok, do you want us to follow you in, or wait here?

Ace: Shouldn't we all go together to avoid getting separated?

Misty: What do you think Alzymus?

Alzymus: I'm talking about the transporter room, sillies. It's not like I'm going to leave without you. I'll be back in a minute anyway...just wait right here.

Misty: Ok.

Alzymus: *slowly walks into the transporter room and looks around* Hmm, I don't actually see anyone here. Rather odd. *peeks back out the door* Ok guys, you can come in.

Misty: *follows Alzymus in* Ok, so what are we looking for?

Alzymus: *points* Over there, you see that computer station? That's the electronic mapping system. And in the middle of the room is the teleportation pad. I'll go over and check the maps to make sure La'Esk's in there.

Misty: Ah, I see. ok. *follows Alzymus over to the maps* *scans the map* Isn't that it? right where... the... big... red... X is...

Alzymus: Right. Looks like we're good to go. Ace, Naomi, and Misty, head over to the teleporter. I'll activate it from here and fly over before it starts.

Misty: Umm... but what exactly does the big... red... X mean? They aren't going to attack there or anything are they?!

Alzymus: I thought it was the marker from your search on the system...I don't actually use the maps when I go out on official business. You could be right...I just don't know.

Misty: No, I didn't put it there... Oh well. Let's just do it and hope for the best. *hops on transporter* ready?

Naomi: *Run into the room* Whew, sorry I'm late! *Hops on transporter without hesitation*

Ace: Looks like we're all set, then. *Walks onto transporter*

Alzymus: Ah, glad everyone's here. *activates transporter and flies over to it* Here we go!

*transporter flashes, and the group is taken to La'Esk*

A late Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our fans!

I hope you people have enjoyed reading our story thus far, because we’re not planning on stopping it here.

I’m afraid the holiday rush and life in general is leaving us coauthors with less and less time. We’re still just getting into Part 24. It’s somewhat hard to finding the time to write, at all.

So, bear with us for a bit. We’re getting our act together, trust me.

Till then, enjoy the videos in the previous post.

Happy Holidays!
